I visited Buenos Aires between 11-14th of October to asses credit worthiness of Argentinian buyers of two big Turkish producers. Although I obtained credit information reports, I aimed to get more detailed information about the creditworthiness of these Argentinian companies. My fist view is Argentina has some political problems and unrecorded sales still a part of country trade, which constitutes a large grey economy. However, Argentine has a dynamism that will overcome these problems over time.
The creditworthiness scales and the consequent credit recommends utilized by the international information agencies are unreliable. Each international information agency may provide a too low different creditworthiness recommendation especially for South American companies. For instance, I have visited an Argentinean company whose creditworthiness recommendation was 500 thousand USD. I examined the detailed financial statements of that company and inquired about market reputation. As a result of my assessment, I recommended a credit limit of 5 million USD to 10 million USD to be allocated for that company.
Companies should not hesitate about selling goods to the Argentinian market, whose profit margins are still at a good level.
In Buenos Aires, I met with the Trade Attache of Turkey to exchange information about the general economic conditions of Argentina.
